The 36th through 44th escort groups remained relatively unchanged escorting convoys between Liverpool and Gibraltar and Sierra Leone. This Naval Battle of Casablanca involved heavy gunfire back and forth from an American battleship, cruisers, and destroyers and return fire from French shore positions, destroyers, and eight of the eleven Vichy French submarines which remained operational despite the early morning bombing raid.
