The Bogue-class escort carriers were based on the Maritime Commission's Type C3 cargo ships hull. These ships had been converted from Maritime Commission Type C3 cargo ships that were finished or had already been laid down. First, the economy unraveled as overpriced "tech stocks" tanked, taking Wall Street and the economy down with them. Of more than 50 deployed, nearly one out of three was destroyed, usually going down with all hands.
